I remembered watching a documentary on the Military channel about the Navy Seals training. To go through that training and complete it, a candidate not only has to be physically, emotionally, and mentally fit, but he has to pay attention to details. To pass the class, the candidate for example, has to be able to rescue his buddy underwater by performing the required steps, and set and/or diffuse bombs on a ship perfectly. Doing your own thing without listening to the instructors is the quickest and surest way to be kicked out of the program.
Paying attention is something that we all have to work on. Being able to listen to what a person says-for example, takes a lot of mental energy. Typically, when a person is talking, the hearer is in the process of formulating what he or she is going to say next. Many times, I find my mind wondering off, and I have to pull together and focus. I often say to myself, “I hope they didn’t catch me.” =)
Walking with God is no different. Paying attention and listening to His voice is the key to living and doing His Will. His voice shouts powerfully through His inerrant Word and whispers profoundly through the Holy Spirit. So, what is God saying to me today? Am I listening?
